A Journey Through St John's Gospel To Holy Week 2021

The series contains the reflections written by David Morson, a parishioner of St Theresa of Lisieux RC Church in Stansted. He is taking the opportunity to reflect in St John’s gospel on our journey towards Easter 2021.

The feeding of the 5,000 by David Morson Have you ever thought what Heaven would be like? I often think it would be like good times we experience on earth, such as meals and celebrations with friends. Just like The Wedding Feast at Cana, Jewish Scriptures likened our relationship with God as one of feasting. In Isaiah 25,6-8 and Proverbs 9, 1-5. God’s Kingdom was akin to sharing a Meal. As in Psalm 132,11-12, it is also seen as a promise of salvation.

The Samaritan Woman At The Well by David Morson Have you ever gone through the motions of doing the same thing every day. It becomes a routine or “Ground Hog Day” and then, all of a sudden, out of the blue, something different happens Something unexpected, which can be life changing. This was certainly the case for the Samaritan Woman who came every day to draw water from Jacob’s Well, but on this occasion she has an encounter with Jesus that she will never forget.

The Healing Of The Nobleman’s Son and The Lame Man by David Morson In these “Signs” St John challenges the Reader for a response to what Jesus is offering. They are not to be passive spectators as belief requires active acquiescence. These two “Signs” are preceded by three related incidents. First, unlike the three Synoptic Gospels which relate the event of Jesus throwing out the money changers from the Temple during Holy Week, St John places it right at the outset of Jesus’s Ministry.
